Your talent is God's gift to you;
what you do with it is your gift to God.
Welcome to my online portfolio! Take a look at my qualifications,
artistic influences, and my professional work. I hope that this look into my world will
be the catalyst needed to elicit a call from you insisting that I take you on as a client! Enjoy!
A new project for me provides the opportunity to execute with
planning in order to ensure quality work. I am eager to get to my computer and bring my
creative ideas to reality by starting the design phase, but any skilled artist will tell
you that that can end up costing you a lot of time and ultimately money. So I make myself
follow the tried and true method of following a five-step process that ensures that I
cover all of my bases.
Even though as a Web Designer, it is the process and not the end result that inspires me.
The creative process for me is never ending-it is infinite!
This first step is crucial. I spend time with the potential client
to gather two different types of information. First, there is the personal. It is important
for me to interact with potential clients on a limited basis. This gives me the opportunity
to better understand their technical needs when we get to the second step of information
gathering which involves finding out what clients want to communicate or promote on their
websites. I am then able to better understand what they want to accomplish, what their
target audience should be, and proceed to the next stage of the process after doing some
research in order to complete the information stage.
With the information gathered, I proceed to planning the navigation
system for the website using my design skills to provide an individualized product suited
to the clients’ needs. My plans are structured at all times to meet the requirements of
the client and I make it a priority to keep them informed at every step of the way. It is
at this stage of the process that I decide if the website needs a flash gallery, a form
on the contact page, a blog or drop down menus. I start sketching out wireframes for each
page which will come in handy when it is time to program.
This is by far the fun phase for me! It is here that I can bring
all of my training and creativity to bear and produce prototypes for the website. At this
point, it is very important to keep focus both the target audiences and clients in mind,
because it is very easy to get carried away using designs that appeal to me.
I play around with color schemes and concepts for the website until I find what “works”
for the type of website I am developing. For example, a website for a law firm would have
a concept that shouts justice and morality, while a website for a wedding planner would
portray colors denoting happiness and love!
This involves developing and planning. I start creating the web
site in a text editor program and I keep the website live on my domain and hosting account.
Doing it this way gives clients the ability to view the process as it develops. Once I
build the shell or the template for the website, it just takes off from there. All that
is left is plugging in the content in the appropriate areas, and then it’s time for the
final stage of the process!
Testing & Delivery
Once the website is fully functional, I make sure that the code is
validated. Clients are given the opportunity to make changes, additions or deletions,
and once everything is 100% satisfactory in the clients’ eyes, we are ready to go live!
I upload the site by FTP and make the website live under the clients’ domain and hosting
account. Once the website is live, I give it another test to make sure that all is well and my work is done!
